Thermochronology Research Fellow, Melbourne

We are seeking an appropriately qualified Research Fellow to join our dynamic Thermochronology Research Group at the University of Melbourne, Australia.  This is a two-year fixed-term position based in Melbourne, one of the world’s most liveable cities.  The position will also require some travel. 

You will undertake research in the field of lot temperature thermochronology, using the fission track and (U-Th)/He methods, combined with zircon U-Pb geochronology, to address problems of tectonics, sedimentary provenance and landscape evolution in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent.

The research is supported by the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF) in collaboration with the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad and the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd of India.

The work will include the initiation and organisation of new field-based research programs in India, and experimental work in the laboratory in Melbourne, coupled with detailed analysis and interpretation of the results obtained. An essential requirement will be to write and publish scientific papers and make presentations to communicate the research outcomes.  You will also be expected to participate in and contribute to the wider activities of the research group of which you will be a member.

The position reports to Professor Andrew Gleadow and Associate Professor Barry Kohn of the Melbourne Thermochronology Research Group

Salary: AUD$65,368 - AUD$70,167 p.a. plus 9% superannuation.
